Westwood Chamber of Commerce Opens Holiday Season With AMEX Small Business Saturday, Home for Holidays and Shop Westwood With a Chance to Win $100 Shopping Spree

Westwood Chamber of Commerce may open the vacation season in grand style with an Amex sponsored event which is geared toward encouraging vacation people to invest their shopping bucks with nearby merchants. The 2nd yearly Small Business Saturday� is set for November 26, 2011, a day devoted to supporting little companies on 1 of the busiest shopping weekends of the year. The Westwood Chamber of Commerce offers embraced this event and encouraged all of its associate companies to participate. All consumers can have a once $ 25 credit on their AMEX statement, by registering their credit card with AMEX SBS, with any buy at a participating Westwood store.
American Express is promoting the event to countless customers over the country encouraging them to Shop Small at their favorite nearby shops and assist fuel the economy. “When we store little, it is huge!” Westwood Chamber president, Gene Callaghan, owner of Irish Eyes Imports, mentioned, “We’re excited regarding our participation in the Small Business Saturday AMEX promotion and enthusiastic because many of our members have embraced the system.”
The following weekend marks the conventional begin of the vacation season in Pascack Valley. The 21st Annual Home for Holidays is scheduled for Saturday, December third, 2011. The event may open with a parade which starts at 6pm and the theme this year is Hometown Holiday. The parade may have marching bands, great floats, getaway characters and naturally, Santa on Engine 14. After arriving in Veterans Park, the tree and candles is lit and shops and restaurants along the avenue is offering cookies, hot chocolate, cider and live music.
Home for Holidays was first started through the Westwood Fire Department and the earliest participation of the Westwood Chamber of Commerce dates to 1967. The first year Santa arrived on a “lavish float” provided through Triple S Blue Stamps following visiting sick kids at Pascack Valley Hospital. The current version of the parade with the Holiday Open Houses started in 1990 and continues to date.
The festivities start early with the last touches on floats and costumes and the marking of the parade line up. There is a story hr at the library with Mrs.Claus, street entertainment with stilt walkers, magicians and face painters, music and dj’s with many free hot chocolate and popcorn.
In 2010, there were over 60 participants and a crowd estimated at 8,000. (See video from Patch.com.)The true concentrate of the parade is constantly on the kids, years 1 – 95 which hold the season close at heart. There is different toy drives install in front of the Iron Horse and everybody is invited to get an unwrapped gift or gift card and say hi to Uncle Lee that offers constantly been the driving force of the great event.
